Why do people pick a certain name for their pets? Do you ever wonder about this?
I do.
But then again, I have a thing for names.
We named our little puppy Coco.

People always ask me why an all-white dog is named after dark, chocolaty cocoa.

“It’s short for Coconut. We leave the “nut” part off because we don’t want him to feel bad.” And it’s such a hassle to pronounce a name with three syllables. Two is much better.
But the “nut” is truest part of his name.

He is such a nut.

I love this ragdoll look that he gets, but it’s usually a sign that a trip to the groomer is right around the corner.
Because although the look is cute, he’s starting to stink.

Now in addition to being our little nut, he’s also our little stinker.![]()
Yeah, I love dogs-they are lovely creatures. I kind of wish I had one here, but when I go to my Mom’s I realize why I don’t. The stinker is there (smile). Coco is a cutie though, and I’m sure he’s totally worth it…
p.s. ‘coco’ means coconut is Spanish!?!

What a cutey, our pets names are not really adventurous as you mentioned two syllables are enough. Bonnie is our springer spaniel and Rocky is our cat.

Ironically, our dog’s name is Marley ( she is small black poodle cross) and we have a rabbit named Coco….
Love your blog. Krista

Oh, that’s so funny! Have you heard of the book, “Marley and Me?” Interestingly enough that author began the book by telling the story of his first dog from his childhood. That dog’s name was Shawn. My husband’s name is Shawn. I use that as evidence that we’re meant to be together – because out there is a man who (at the time he wrote the book) had only two dogs in his life – Shawn and Marly. What are the odds of that?

Coco’s a real cutie pie! We’re kind of into pet names around here. I grew up with a “Leland” cat and an “Edward” weiner dog. My hubby and I’s first cat was named “Steve” and was later replaced by “Robert” who ended up being a real jerk. Our current dog, a tiny shitzu-poodle mix goes by “Lewis.” As I’m listing off these names, I’m beginning to understand why most of our pets have all had a bunch of attitude.

I’ve never met a dog called Robert. Did you call him Bob? Robby? I know, maybe you called him Roberto!

Oh, don’t let him hear that. He’s already full of himself as it is. When we take him to the dog park he runs around with all the big dogs…like he thinks he’s one of them! He’s such a hoot!

Adorable. Coco fits him well! I love hearing the names that people chose for their pets…I want to get a cat just so I can pick out and awesome name for him/her. Ideally, I would like to own two female cats and name them Emily and Charlotte (after the Bronte sisters)

Coco is darling! Of course, I can’t smell him from here. Being currently dogless, I just have to enjoy posts of everyone else’s dogs. Thanks.

He is a stinker in more ways than one. Is that an example of unconditional love or what? He’s stinky but I love him still. Ahh, we all deserve love like that!

Since you mentioned ‘Marley and Me’, can I recommend another excellent book – ‘A Dog Year’ by Jon Katz? It’s phenomenal, and one of my all time faves.

I think we have that book. I haven’t read it yet, but my husband has. Thanks for the recommendation…I should move it higher on my priority list.

There are days I might want to give him away…but only momentarily. He’s just the cutest and sweetest little guy. He’s very vocal – wimpering and groaning. He’s always cracking us up!

As you know Marly I have two pups. Our yellow lab, Sako, was named after a hunting rifle (go figure – My husband was from Northern Ontario where they were big on hunting for Moose- I’m sure you’re cringing when you read this Marly). Most people when first hearing his name wonder why we would name our dog after a watch. Our little, lhasa poo, Kisses, got her name from a couple that witnessed out first interaction with her, she couldn’t stop kissing us.
Coco is adorable, I love his ears!
