When you’re gluten-free, sometimes it’s the small things that make can make a difference. Maybe that’s because there are a lot of big things about giving up gluten that are not so easy, like passing up a slice of warm, fresh-from-the oven slice of bread. Or giving up your favorite chocolate chip cookies. Sometimes life is just not fair. But I’ve always felt that no matter what hand you’ve been dealt, you have to make something work. Find a way to win, so to speak.
And I’ve come to peace with it, at least on the big things. But it’s the little things that can really get to you, like a tiny little speck of a splinter bringing you to your knees. Like hanging out with friends after an hour or two of tennis and sitting on the deck cooling off. They’re handing out ice cold brews and you’re left saying, “No thanks. I’ll just have this glass of water.”
Not that there’s anything wrong with water. It’s a great way to replenish yourself after a hot day on (or off) the courts. It’s just that some days you pine for something a little bit more.
I have a confession for you. I’m not really much of a drinker. But there are times, like hot summer afternoons, when I enjoy a little strong drink. And I’m not talking about the caffeinated kind.
My favorite beer used to be Blue Moon. In fact, it was about the only beer I would drink. But now I’m gluten-free, and it seems like every variety of alcohol is based from wheat. I was beginning to wonder if my alcohol consumption would be limited to the occasional glass of wine.
Not any more!
Thanks to Michelob ULTRA Light Cider, I can enjoy a tall, cool one on the deck with my friends. It has a flavor that can only be described as crisp apple. Sure, it says that right on the package, but I honestly can’t think of better way to describe its flavor.
Sometimes you’ll see people add a slice of lemon or lime to their beer. I wanted to do something like that, but only with something that would complement that apple flavor. We happened to have some fresh strawberries on hand and the two flavors were perfect together.
Being gluten-free can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be a life sentence of boring.
And you don’t have to be gluten-free to enjoy this light, refreshing drink. My husband popped the top on his own bottle and we tapped glasses to celebrate the beginning of a great summer.
I did discover one problem with this new favorite drink of mine. I’m a sipper and I didn’t enjoy it as much once it wasn’t ice-cold. That problem was easily resolved because Michelob ULTRA Light Cider can be enjoyed straight from the glass or over ice. Perfect for your next summer day’s outing!
