Italian Basil Lemonade

Today I’m celebrating which is why I pulled out the stops to make something a little extra special, Italian Basil Lemonade. Yes, that means I’ll be doing my happy dance, but the good news is I’m not dancing by myself this time. I’m joined by a whole group of food bloggers who are enjoying a good ol’ fashioned Virtual Baby Shower. OK. I know. Virtual Baby Showers are not necessarily old fashioned, but you can imagine a day where they might be, right? So please join us in welcoming a new baby coming soon to the arms of Aggie Goodman of Aggie’s Kitchen.

Basil Sparkling Lemonade is perfect for a summer baby shower or any day of the week

Celebrating the upcoming birth of a new baby is such a memorable time for a family. And is there any better way to celebrate than by having a group of wonderfully supportive women surprise you with a baby shower? Besides, a baby shower is really just a party without the alcohol. Works for me!

When you think about it, that’s something we women do really well. Yes, we can party with the best of them. But this world can be a tough place sometimes, and we women have a knack for coming together and making things a little (or even a lot) better.

That’s what we’re shooting for here – a little blogisphere specialness.

Italian Lemonade with Lemon Sorbet

My version of special was this Italian Basil Sparkling Lemonade. It’s a refreshing drink for baby showers or even an any day of the week drink. Be sure to check out the other tasty recipes in our Virtual Baby Shower event listed below.

Italian Basil Sparkling Lemonade

Ingredients

  • 3 – 5 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups lemon juice, chilled
  • 2 cups club soda, chilled
  • 2 cups lemon sorbet
  • Crushed ice
  • Garnish with lemon slices and basil sprigs

Directions

  1. Place basil, sugar and water in a medium saucepan and cook over low heat until the sugar is dissolved, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat to cool and then remove basil leaves. Place in the fridge to chill.
  2. Immediately before serving combine the lemon juice, sparkling water, and basil syrup. Stir to combine. Then add scoops of the lemon sorbet, and decorate with lemon slices and fresh sprigs of basil.

Enjoy!
